**Ramallah** – The Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs, the Palestinian Prisoners' Club, and the Addameer Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association have received responses from the Israeli occupation army confirming the martyrdom of detainees **Mohammed Sharif Al-Asali (35 years old) on May 17, 2024**, and **Ibrahim Adnan Ashour (25 years old) on June 23, 2024**. Both detainees were from **Gaza**.

The prisoners' organizations stated that martyr **Mohammed Al-Asali** was arrested from **Al-Shifa Hospital** during the genocide in **March 2024**. His family later learned that he was held in **Ashkelon Prison**. However, they received conflicting information—one source reported that he had been martyred, while another indicated that he was still detained in Ashkelon. The occupation later confirmed that **Al-Asali was martyred on the above-mentioned date**.

Al-Asali, a father of **four children**, had no chronic health issues, according to his family. During the **genocidal war**, all his brothers were martyred, leaving only his father. His mother passed away while receiving medical treatment in **Jerusalem** and was buried in **Ramallah**.

Regarding martyr **Ibrahim Ashour**, he was arrested on **February 14, 2024**, from **Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis**. Like Al-Asali, he had no preexisting health conditions.

The prisoners' organizations emphasized that the Israeli occupation does not only kill detainees but also **deliberately manipulates responses regarding their fate**. This practice was evident in the cases of both martyrs. In particular, Ashour's case involved multiple contradictory responses: requests to visit him were initially granted on the basis that he was detained in **Ofer Camp**, later changed to indicate he was being interrogated in **November 2024**, and ultimately, the final response confirmed his martyrdom on **June 23, 2024**.

The organizations reiterated that all responses confirming the martyrdom of detainees come **solely from the Israeli occupation forces**, as the occupation **continues to withhold their bodies**. In most cases, Israeli authorities claim that "investigations are ongoing" in an attempt to evade **international accountability**.

The prisoners' organizations reported that with the martyrdom of **Al-Asali and Ashour**, the total number of Palestinian detainees who have died in Israeli occupation prisons since the start of the **genocidal war** has risen to **58 martyrs**, whose identities are known. Among them, at least **37 are from Gaza**. This figure represents the **highest death toll in history**, making this **the bloodiest period for the Palestinian prisoner movement since 1967**. The number of known Palestinian prisoner martyrs since **1967** has now reached **295**, with **dozens of detainees from Gaza still subjected to enforced disappearance **.

The organizations stressed that the **martyrdom of Al-Asali and Ashour is another crime in Israel's long record of brutality**, which has reached its peak since the start of the **genocidal war**. They further asserted that the **treatment of Palestinian detainees is an extension of this war**, aimed at **executing and assassinating prisoners**.

They also warned that the **rising number of detainee martyrs will escalate further** as thousands remain imprisoned under extreme **systematic crimes**, including **torture, starvation, medical neglect, physical assaults, sexual violence, and the deliberate imposition of conditions leading to serious and infectious diseases**. Additionally, detainees are subjected to **unprecedented deprivation policies** at an extreme level.

The prisoners' organizations hold the **Israeli occupation fully responsible** for the martyrdom of **Al-Asali and Ashour**.

They **renew their call** for **international human rights organizations** to take **decisive measures to hold Israeli leaders accountable for war crimes**. They urged the **imposition of sanctions** to **isolate Israel internationally** and restore the **fundamental role of human rights institutions**, which have been alarmingly ineffective amid the **ongoing genocide**. Finally, they demanded an **end to the exceptional immunity granted to Israel by Western colonial powers**, which continues to shield it from accountability, prosecution, and punishment.
